somehow it always happens.

wil has a thing. an issue of sorts. a quirky habit.

we have discovered over time that it is IMPOSSIBLE for wil to come back from the grocery store with the correct item in hand. well, let me rephrase that. he comes back with the right item in general, but it’s never quite the right version.

it’s not that he cannot read labels, it’s that he doesn’t, and in the end, is unlucky about 85% of the time.

we went grocery shopping last night (although we basically spent our month’s budget in one evening at costco and kroger, we have planned out meals for at least two weeks…but that’s a different post altogether). and of course, it happened once again. i heard wil shriek towards the fridge while i was in the pantry (we always split who organizes dry goods versus cold goods…are we weird?), and lo and behold, he did not get just standard sour cream…he got lite. (and a big tub, so we get to live with lite for a while…)

it more often than not is a dairy item since they have a lot of reduced or lite options, but no, his ability to pick the wrong thing off the shelf goes beyond that. these are a few of my favorites:

• light/low fat coffee creamer
• light/low fat sour cream
• reduced sugar cinnamon toast crunch (TERRIBLE…what good is that cereal without sugar?)
• reduced fat pop tarts (he didn’t notice this one until eating the pop tart and knew they tasted weird)

i know there have probably been more unique ones, but it happens on a regular basis that they just blur into memory. how does he do it!?
