spring cleaning

March 15, 2009

wil has really been looking forward to spring cleaning the last few weeks…like serious spring cleaning of going through closets and discovering what random stuff we can throw away (sound like anyone he grew up with???)…

i have to be honest, at first i was kind of dreading it, but we’ve kind of taken on this whole life change idea, and the potential of moving out of state idea, and knowing that, it’s got me all revved up on what i can start selling on craigslist. so today we started it. both extra bedroom closets got opened and turned upside down…we’ve started a pile of things to go to good will, pile of things to trash, pile of things that are ok to go back into the closet and i’ve already listed 10 things on craigslist today (most are only like 10 bucks each, but it’s a start!)

we actually sat down and made a list of everything we’d plan to sell by the end of the summer…and we’ve got a list of like 35 items to post here and there, with at least half of the stuff being furniture (that’s not worth coming with us to whatever lies ahead, and could be easily or cheaply replaced if need be). also, it’s kind of fun to think about the extra income and that it could help us accomplish the house projects that turned from “oh we’ll do that someday” to, “we need to get this done in the next couple months!”
why is it that spring cleaning and clearing out the old is so invigorating? i think the concept of getting back down to the basics is kind of exciting. just a reminder that while some silly little things have some sentimental meanings, everything is just stuff, and we really don’t need that much stuff.

go forth! start clearing out your closets!
