it’s a random thoughts kind of day…

- i planted my veggie seedlings into my garden bed a couple days ago…thank goodness i started this gardening project with the mentality that it is truly an experiment, and that no harvest is still a success because it’s all a learning process. because every day i flip flop feeling like i’m doing it all wrong and doing it right. portland has been struck with an unusually cold and wet march and april…not ever being able to even reach 60 degrees, when we ought to have weeks and weeks ago. without buying all that fancy seedling light equipment, i did my best with a cloudy window, and i think my little rolls of plants aren’t the strongest they could be. the snap peas are slowly trying to climb, and the carrots are peeking little green sprouts much better than i realized, and the teeny little seedlings haven’t died yet. i am so *not* opposed to slapping some cash down for some hardy transplants from the farmers market to give those a go too.

- i am loving the fact that wil and i get to spend all morning and early day with each other thanks to my new direction of life. we are easily falling into a routine of our french press each morning (what a pain to clean!), and as time passes, i am trying to figure out what’s the best way to arrange my time for a decent work schedule (because we all know i like lists and schedules!)

- i knew we had roses, irises, and hydrangeas in our garden, but we were pleasantly surprised with a patch of beautiful tulips in our front as well! what a lovely surprise. i know we will quickly outgrow this little home, but i love our duplex.

- because we are nosy, we’ve been trying to figure out our next door neighbors last name…(wil wants to look him up on facebook) he had a package come today, and we snuck over to his stoop like 3 times to try and decipher the handwriting, and then realized he was home the whole time. he’s a pretty quiet guy, which somehow makes his life all the more interesting.

- i’ve started to add more items to my shop! after a few initial orders that i delivered this past weekend, i have no produce bags made, and only one tote, so i better get on it to have stock to sell! just another challenge of trying to decipher how to balance what and when to make things…keep on hand? make to order? my dear mom let me ransack her sewing room, and after a giggly night of my mom, my sister and i sorting through old patterns and scraps (some dating over 20 years), i have a great stash of pieces for more appliqué. with the combo of some new, modern fabric pieces that should arrive on my doorstep today, i’m excited to produce! please visit, pass along to a friend, and repeat: life at the table on etsy.

have a fabulous spring day, friends.
